Sustainability

Sustainability at Niagara Falls State Park

As a global leader in the hospitality and entertainment industry, Delaware North is committed to sustainability and responsible stewardship. In 1999, we created GreenPath® as a dedicated, proprietary stewardship platform to help us organize and accelerate efforts throughout the company to reduce our environmental impact and positively contribute to the communities we serve. We take a thoughtful approach that brings sustainability and hospitality together to create a guest experience that is both responsible and rewarding.

Here are a few of the GreenPath initiatives Delaware North works on at Niagara Falls State Park.

Say No to Single-Use Plastics: New York State Parks launched their Say No to Single-Use Plastics to reduce plastic pollution; you can find signage on the program in our food outlets. Here is a link about the program. To further support the New York State Parks program, Delaware North uses compostable single use products. This includes our cups, lids, cutlery, bowls, and trays in our food outlets just to name a few. We have also eliminated plastic water bottles and currently sell Aquafina Alumitek Water Bottles at our Delaware North locations within the park.

Recycle: We have recycling bins throughout the park. With our recycling program we accept plastic bottles, cardboard, aluminum cans, and non-food contaminated paper. Please make sure to keep food, food soiled paper, plastic bags, chip/snack bags, and other non-recyclable items out of the recycling bins. Behind the scenes we recycle, paint, toner cartridges, batteries, LED bulbs, metal, wood, and electronics.

Supporting local vendors: Delaware North participates in the Taste of NY program which helps connect us with local vendors, so we can sell local products at the park. Look for our Taste of New York signage to find those items.

Energy: All of our lighting inside the buildings is LED lighting, and our Welcome Center is completely fossil fuel free with our fully electric kitchen.

Giving back to the Community: Delaware North gives back to our community all year round. In our retail outlets, we participate in a Round Up program where guests can round up their totals upon checkout, and the difference goes to the local Community Missions. This Round Up program runs from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. We also donate excess food to the local Community Missions throughout the year. Delaware North is also one of the sponsors for the Northpointe Council’s Annual Jack O’Lantern Race. We participate in several volunteer activities throughout the season as well.
